Shannon Steele is a Research Scientist at Kraken Robotic Systems Inc., Dartmouth, N.S., Canada. She received her MS in oceanography from the University of New Hampshire in 2019 and her B.Sc. with first class honours from Dalhousie University in 2016. From 2016 to 2019, she was a research assistant at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping, University of New Hampshire, where she developed End-fire synthetic aperture sonar (SAS). In 2019 Shannon joined Kraken Robotics where she conducts research in a variety of topics including SAS, artificial intelligence, sonar performance modelling, seafloor characterization, and signal processing. From June to November 2024 Shannon modelled and developed Low Frequency SAS processing as a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation , La Spezia, Italy. Shannon is the chair of the IEEE Standards Association Synthetic Aperture Standards Committee SAS Working Group.
